Outdoor activities on Schiermonnikoog

Almost all visitors to Schiermonnikoog come to enjoy the outdoors! Schiermonnikoog’s beautiful nature – the wide beach, the dunes, the Mudflats (Wad), the Westerplas and the duck sanctuary – has its charms in every season.

Most activities are possible throughout the year, such as:

• walking along the beach, through the dunes or in the woods
• cycling along its many bicycle lanes
• seeing Schiermonnikoog from the back of a horse or by horse and carriage
• beach sailing, seal trips, kite flying and survival trips

There are also a number of activities that are particular to Schiermonnikoog:

• visit the vogelringstation
• take the Balg express for a trip across the Balg
• visit the bunker museum or the Shell museum
• take a guided tour of the historic duck sanctuary

You can register for most of the arranged activities. This is especially recommended when it is in season because there could be limited places. However, it is also advisable even when not in season, as some activities only take place when there are sufficient numbers.
