In the 1920s, the Vredenhof cemetery on Schiermonnikoog was constructed.
Vredenhof is a begraafplaats for drowned men and soldiers from the 1st and 2nd World Wars.
Vredenhof is located in the dune area, surrounded by pine trees, north of the
Reddingsweg.
During the war years, both Allies and Germans were buried at Vredenhof.
All drowning victims were buried with military honour. Many photos have been preserved
from this time

More than 100 people have received their final resting place. On 4 May, Vredenhof is also the place where the Remembrance of the Dead on Schiermonnikoog takes place.
